Is lying on my front safe during pregnancy?

Yes, lying on your front using Anna is perfectly safe because your bump is fully supported.  Of course, lying on your front without support becomes physically impossible as your bump gets bigger, which is why we made Anna.  Gynaecologists, Chiropractors and other health professionals agree that lying on your tummy whilst using Anna is safe for both you and your baby.

You can read more about the benefits of lying / sleeping on your stomach during pregnancy holds for you and your baby in our blog post here.

At which stages of my pregnancy can I use Anna?

You can safely enjoy using your Anna throughout your entire pregnancy, right up until you give birth.  In fact, you most probably will use your pillow even more during your final trimester, as your baby gets bigger and heavier, putting more pressure on your pelvis and lower back.

Can I sleep on Anna through the night?

Most of us move around and change positions several times during a night’s sleep, even if we are not aware of it.  For this reason, you’ll prefer to use your Anna throughout the night changing between different sleeping positions (avoid sleeping flat on your back). It is not recommended that any person, whether pregnant or not, sleeps on their front for a full night, because of the strain this puts on the rest of your spine.

Does Anna come in different colour options?

At the moment, no. But keep a lookout in the near future. We’re working on it!

What materials are used for Anna?

We source only the highest quality materials and go above and beyond to ensure Anna meets or exceeds safety standards.  The foam inner is made from medical-grade, closed-cell PU foam which is antimicrobial, antibacterial and Crib 5 Fire/Flame Retardant.

Both the cotton covers are made of 95% Cotton and 5% Lycra which makes it breathable and stable, meaning you or your baby won't get all sweaty when using the pillow.

The MHRA has provided written confirmation that we are not required to obtain any additional safety certifications for Anna.

How should I clean my Anna?

Most often, you will only need to wash the outer cover of your Anna.  To do this, unzip the entire length of the zip and pull out the foam (covered in a second cotton sleeve).   In the case of heavy soiling, the inner cover can also be unzipped and washed. Wash covers on a cold machine wash (30 degrees is recommended) and hang to air dry.

Do not bleach. Do not tumble dry.  Do not dry clean. Do not iron as this may permanently stretch and damage the Lycra fibres.  For more information, see Care Instructions.

Can I swaddle my baby in my Anna?

Yes, you can place your swaddled baby, on their back, in your Anna.  When a baby show signs of attempting to roll, swaddling should no longer be used.

Can I co-sleep with my baby using Anna?

Yes, Anna is perfectly safe to use for co-sleeping as long as the Safety Guidelines are adhered to.  See Safety Guidelines.

Should I wash Anna before using?

No, your Anna will arrive in perfect condition and ready for you to use and enjoy.

Is my Anna breathable?

Anna is designed and tested for air-permeability. While we pass a test for air permeability, your baby should only be placed on their back in the pillow.  The covers are made from 95% Cotton and 5% Lycra making Anna breathable and safe.

How do I store my Anna?

You should always store your Anna in a cool, dry place and out of direct sunlight.

What age is appropriate for my baby to sleep and use Anna?

This will differ from baby to baby, according to how quickly they are growing and how wiggly they are.  Generally though, Anna is ideally suited for newborns, and babies up until around the age of 6 months (or 8kg).  You have to make sure Anna is covered with both covers in order to ensure stability and safety for your baby.  DO NOT use the pillow without the provided covers.

We following the sleep safety guidelines published by The Lullaby Trust, who uses an evidence-based advice on choosing baby sleeping products.  Their advice is to not leave your baby in a sleeping pod or nest overnight.

Can I use my Anna in a crib, bassinet and/or play mat?

Your Anna should always be placed on a wide, flat, stable surface before placing your baby into it.  Do not place your Anna on a high surface without supervision.

How do I travel with Anna?

Every Anna comes with its own calico drawstring bag making it easy to transport.

Can I carry my baby in Anna?

No.  Always remove your baby from your Anna first before attempting to pick up or move the pillow.

What position is safe for my baby to lie in Anna?

You have to make sure Anna is covered with both covers in order to ensure stability and safety for your baby.  DO NOT use the pillow without the provided covers.  Curved in the middle, always place your baby with their head slightly higher than the rest of their body.  This is a very comfortable position for your baby and is particularly helpful in relieving re-flux as this is a similar position as when they are in the womb.
